The Australian Industry Group Apprentice and Trainee Centre (ATC) has commenced Safe Start, a WorkSafe Victoria-funded project aimed at improving health and safety outcomes for apprentices and trainees working in manufacturing industries.
The project will work with apprentices, employers, industry representatives, training organisations and workplace health and safety specialists to better understand the challenges young workers face when entering the workforce and identify practical ways to strengthen workplace safety practices.
A key focus of the project is ensuring the voices of apprentices are heard. By gaining a better understanding of how apprentices learn about safety, what supports them to work safely, and where improvements can be made, Safe Start aims to help create safer and more supportive workplaces across the manufacturing sector.
Over the coming months, the project team will be engaging with stakeholders across Victoria to gather insights and explore opportunities to improve safety outcomes for the next generation of manufacturing workers.
