Queensland’s new TAFE Centre of Excellence Construction Tech is being established as a statewide initiative led by TAFE Queensland. It will operate across TAFE Queensland campuses, with additional purpose-built construction training facilities planned for Caloundra and Moreton Bay/Petrie, with those new campuses expected to be delivered in 2028.

The centre is intended to develop training solutions for the construction workforce in Queensland and nationally. It will focus on emerging technologies, sustainability, workforce diversity, and stronger pathways into construction careers. It is also expected to recognise prior learning, offer flexible and simulated training, support applied research, and help small to medium-sized construction businesses use new technology to improve productivity, safety and costs.

The centre was introduced in response to workforce pressures in construction, particularly the need for more skilled workers to support housing delivery, major infrastructure projects, and Queensland’s preparation for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It was announced under the National Skills Agreement, which funds TAFE Centres of Excellence to address skills shortages in strategically important industries through collaboration between TAFEs, employers, unions, universities and other partners.
