The Commonwealth and Victorian governments have jointly announced the introduction of two new TAFE Centres of Excellence in Victoria. The two new Centres will be established in Melbourne to support training in digital technology and homebased care. A total investment of $50.6 million will fund a Digital, AI and Technology Centre of Excellence at Chisholm Institute’s Frankston campus and a Home and Community Care Centre of Excellence at Holmesglen Institute’s Moorabbin campus.
The digital centre will offer training in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and emerging technologies, with opportunities for students to learn through advanced simulation labs and industry partnerships. The aim is to strengthen Australia’s digital skills pipeline and provide faster pathways for upskilling and reskilling.
The home and community care centre will help meet growing demand for in-home care by providing training supported by a purpose-built smart house equipped with adaptive technologies. Students will gain practical experience with modern care practices, remote monitoring tools and automated systems.
Beyond the two newly announced centres, Victoria hosts the Melbourne Polytechnic Future of Housing Construction Centre of Excellence, which will deliver industry-relevant and innovative training to uplift the technical and digital skills of traditional construction and engineering trades in modern methods of construction.
In total, 16 centres have been announced nationally, with up to 20 planned under the National Skills Agreement. These centres are intended to lift standards, support industry aligned training, and expand access to specialised facilities and technology.
